I was blessed to be part of a team (Keith Dolby, PharmD candidate and Yihong Deng, PhD candidate) from University of Cincinnati James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy who spoke at the annual Ohio Pharmacist Association meeting in April.

Pharmacogenetics is a big, scary word that brings simplicity to prescribing medications. A cheek swab sample of your DNA is obtained , sent to a lab, and evaluated for the best medications for you.

The physicians I work with Love it. It wasn’t always that way. They were skeptical at first and it took some persistence to break down barriers through education.

In April, I was given an opportunity to help break down some more barriers by educating pharmacists about the benefits of Pharmacogenetic testing.

This simple cheek swab is changing lives for the better and improving health outcomes.
