I was just interviewed for a blog about generic vs brand name medications.
What are your questions about generic medications? Personally, my family and I take them. They cost 80-85% less than brand name meds and have the same amount of active ingredient. The medicine must act the same way in your body as the brand name.The inactive ingredients may differ.
Why do they cost so much less? Because they can take the recipe developed by the brand name company without all the research and development. Also, they don’t have as many advertising costs since many insurance companies require pharmacists to dispense the generic, if available. In addition, there are multiple generic manufacturers of the same medication which creates competition and drives the price down.
